14 October 1991. Cheering crowds lined the streets of Banbury to welcome the Princess of Wales. Fans waited up to three hours behind barriers to see Diana, who rewarded them with an hour-long walkabout - a last-minut addition to a schedule which took her to Adderbury, Bloxham, Broughton Castle and Queensway Primary School.

Diana first visited the Katharine House Hospice to visit patients which including Hedley Lane and his Wife, Gladys, from Horton View in Banbury. Her next stop was Boxham, to unveil the XJ-220, at the time the world's fastest production car.

Thence to sit in on classes at Banbury's Queensway School where the children sang a song written for the occasion by headteacher David Martin.
